Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring for class?
Mats are always free at Commune and we provide high-quality Manduka mats for every student. If you know you tend to be on the sweatier side (we feel you!) please bring a towel to help with any slipping.
We do not sell bottled water, but have filtered water & cups readily available.
What should I wear?
We are a warm yoga studio heated to roughly 75-80 degrees and you can expect to sweat in our Solar Vinyasa, Lunar Flow, & Handstand classes so dress according to your personal needs & comfort.
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that does not limit your range of motion. An outfit that you would wear on a jog on a warm day will work well for most of our active classes, while it may be nice to have a few more layers for restore classes where there is less/no vigorous movement.
No shoes are allowed in the yoga room, and we don't recommend wearing any socks during practice.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive roughly 10 minutes early for your first visit. This will allow enough time for registration and a brief orientation or questions before class begins.
We encourage you to sign in online which will save you time at check-in and secure your space in class.
Doors open 15 minutes prior to the class start time.
How many people will be in class? Will I get personal attention?
We are a small neighborhood studio which holds 20-25 students depending on the class. Our teachers typically offer hands-on adjustments & assists during class, however we always have consent cards available for you to place near your mat to let the teacher know should you prefer not to receive any physical touch or adjustments at all during class.
Please don't hesitate to ask us about this if you have any questions or concerns regarding adjustments/assists.
Where can I park?
Parking is free on most of the surrounding streets near the studio. Please be mindful of any street signs or street cleaning day restrictions and remember that we are located in a neighborhood so please be respectful of our neighbors by ensuring you do not block any driveways.
What kind of payments do you accept?
We are a cash-free studio and only accept debit/credit purchases either online or in-studio.
How do I sign up for class?
Signing up for class is quick, simple, and makes showing up to practice an easy seamless process. You can check the schedule online here and register or purchase any classes/memberships online beforehand. This will ensure your space in class is held as some of our classes can fill up quickly.
What type of class should I attend?
There is a class for everyone at Commune! Please take a look at our class descriptions and our online class schedule to see our current offerings.
If you are new to Vinyasa yoga, we recommend starting with one of our Yoga Fundamentals classes. These classes provide an open environment to learn, move, and dive into the specifics of the practice. Suitable for both new students and seasoned ones looking to refine their practice.
I have an injury, can I still practice yoga?
That depends. What did your doctor/physical therapist say?
While we'd like to tell you that yoga will always heal you, we simply can't make those kinds of promises. Many students find yoga to be a helpful resource when working through an injury but it depends on the specifics and severity. Please consult with your doctor/physical therapist/bodyworker and let your teacher know what is going on so that we can work through any necessary modifications for class.
We are here to help, but we are not qualified to diagnose any injuries or illness so your physician and your own intuition are the first lines of defense when working with an injury.
I'm pregnant, can I still come to class? Which one would be best for me?
That depends. What did your provider say?
The mild heat in our classes is suitable for pregnancy and is within the general guidelines even for 1st trimester women when body temperature is the most crucial. While more & more providers are recommending women do yoga during pregnancy (which is great!), the general rule of thumb is not to start anything new or potentially stressful to your body during pregnancy.
If you've had a steady practice before pregnancy, likely you'll be able to enjoy continuing your practice throughout - but if you've never stepped on a yoga mat before, now may not be the best time to jump into a vigorous vinyasa class. We'd recommend you integrate yoga into your pregnancy with either our Stretch class or Fundamentals, or one of the pre & post- natal series that we offer periodically at Commune.

Can I book a Private or small group yoga session?
Of course! Working one-on-one is a great way to delve into the unique needs of your practice with a teacher. Please reach out to any of our experienced teachers to schedule a private or small group yoga session.
